Terry and Paul used some frequent flier miles to tour the UK
during June 1999. We flew into Heathrow, and spent a little time in London, but
mostly toured around the country using BritRail passes and rental cars.

Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire
I asked a guide at the Abbey if the destruction happened during the
War, thinking WWII. The guide said that yes indeed the Abbey was
firebombed during a war, but it was the army of Henry VIII in the 1500s!
Edinburough Castle
Tour guide here told us that this castle had one of the first examples
of multi-story living quarters, some as high as ten stories. The trouble
was, they had no indoor plumbing. So at certain times during the day, the
town crier announced that it was permissible to throw garbage and
human waste out the windows. I supposed that would be a bad time to be on
the street
Loch Ness
The Scottish Highlands. Note the snow on the
mountains, and this is mid-June!
The Roman baths in Bath
I expected a spiritual experience when we visited
Stonehenge. Unfortunately, it is at the intersection of two heavily used
highways, with an RAF base nearby. The hardest part of taking this picture
was to catch a moment without a group of tourists in the frame.
